 Who is SAYA?

SAYA, a new name in recycled fibers, is in the business of renewal. Nan Ya Plastics, SAYA's parent company, is the world's largest manufacturer of recycled PET, repurposing over 75 billion bottles every year. Now, under the brand SAYA, research and development efforts continue to focus on the critical recycling and sustainability issues that face the textile and garment industry and redefine what's possible in textile renewal including recycling fabric scrap, overruns and garments. Based in Taiwan, SAYA's recycling and manufacturing facilities are located throughout Asia including China, Japan, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. In recent years, collection and renewal efforts have expanded into regions in the USA and South America.

What is SAYA's Vision & Mission?

A Greater Expectation.

We manufacture sustainable fibers from recycled resources to lessen our impacts, grow our partners and better our world.

Our motto is recover, renew, rebuild and our mission is to bring new life to what was once discarded.

We innovate to bring better manufacturing methods, cleaner processes and more sustainable products to market. We don't shy away from more challenging endeavors as we seek to redefine what's possible in textile renewal.

At Saya, we believe that raising the bar, within the supply chain, elevates us all.

What are the divisions of SAYA?

SAYA Now includes fibers made from recycled post-consumer PET bottles and offers brands and developers the best value and accessibility as well as geographic specific collection and recycling options to support unique brand initiatives.

  • SAYA 365 is widely available all over the globe and offers the best value. SAYA 365 is the largest recycled PET bottle fiber source on the globe and offers the most comprehensive selection and commercially consistent recycled PET bottle fibers available.
  • SAYA Coastal is a specialized recycling program that targets the clean-up and renewal of discarded plastic bottles in coastal regions that would otherwise migrate out to sea.
  • SAYA USA is a special collection of recycled polyester fibers made in our facility in South Carolina, USA. It is ideal for brands which prioritize the "Made in the USA" designation.

SAYA Next includes fibers made from garments, fabrics, and cutting waste with the goal of providing solutions to the industrial waste problem shrouding the textile industry, includes fibers made from garments, fabrics, and cutting waste with the goal of providing solutions to the industrial waste problem shrouding the textile industry.

  • SAYA RSCUW (Recycled Scrap and Cutting Waste) is the industry's most advanced mix content recycling project addressing the garment industry's largest areas of hidden waste: cutting scrap and overstock fabrics. Historically, cutting scrap (up to 20% waste per yard) and fabric overstock recycling has been difficult and expensive.
  • SAYA RSCUW Raw is made of cutting fabric scrap and colored PET bottles retaining its original color. These fibers are recycled without the bleaching process, and hence are more energy efficient and carbon friendly. The fiber colors are inconsistent in nature depending on the sources and range from grey to blackish shades which lends itself to heather woven or knitted fabric designs.
  • SAYA Garma is in continuous development as we seek recycling solutions for post-consumer garments – which would otherwise end up in landfills. With performance finishes, coatings, trims and zippers to contend with, SAYA Garma is our most complex renewal project.

What is unique about SAYA technology?

SAYA 365 continues to perfect the process of renewing water bottles into yarns for multiple uses upcycling single use, low value, high volume plastic bottles into durable performance and functional fibers that are durable, functional, and recyclable yet again. We recycle over 100,000 tons of plastic bottles per year (equivalent to 750,000,000 bottles).

Discarded water bottles are renewed through our proprietary, five-stage filtration process which are followed by two stages of purification. The resulting flakes are then transported to in-house facilities where they are batch-optimized to control color and tenacity and then transformed into pellets ready to be extruded into recycled yarns designated for a specific end-use.

The melting process goes through temperatures over 200C, this removes all any potential viruses and bacteria that may remain after the recycling process. SAYA's proprietary filtration process ensures all yarns meet European Union REACH (2020) and Oeko Tex 100 standards for heavy metal and other harmful RSL and residues.

SAYA RSCUW Fibers consist of 3 types of recycled components. Garment cutting scrap, overstock fabric, waste yarn, and post-consumer PET bottles. Post industrial wastes make up a minimum of 15%, and post consumer bottles about 80-85%.

  • Fabric cutting scrap is an inevitable part of garment manufacturing that results in up to 20% waste per yard. In the past, most of these scraps end up in landfills or incinerators as there are no commercially effective methods of recycling them.
  • Overstock yardage and greige goods in the textile industry is still a serious and overlooked problem. SAYA RSCUW provides a renewal solution for rolls of fabric that don't make it to the garment stage.

SAYA RSCUW Raw fibers are made of cutting fabric scrap and colored PET bottles retaining its original color. These fibers are recycled without the bleaching process, and hence are a more energy efficient and carbon friendly option The fiber colors are inconsistent in nature ranging in color from grey to blackish shade. The best applications are in heather woven or knitted fabric designs proudly displaying the shades of the most eco-conscious performance fiber in SAYA.
